For those not in the know, these are various records where the user can not only write text, but also insert photos or pictures, checklists and other types of data. It is possible to change the background, add bulleted lists, signatures. Moreover, all your records will be synchronized in the Mi cloud service, so information can be accessed from any device authorized under your account.

The application is very useful for quick notes, making a shopping list, doing business, so Xiaomi developers decided to protect users by giving them the ability to hide notes. After all, it may contain confidential information, right?

  1. Open the Notes application on your Xiaomi smartphone and select the entry that you want to turn into hidden mode. If you have several such entries, then click on any of them and hold your finger for a long time until the selection mode appears.
  2. Mark all the notes that you want to hide and at the bottom of the screen, click the "Hide" tab.
  3. That's it, the system has hidden your records, and now they will be available only after entering a password or pattern.

  2. Once you provide a password, the system will automatically display all hidden tags. If you exit the application, you will have to repeat the procedure the next time to view it.

Also, for protection, you can set a pattern or pin code.

Another important point is that you cannot use the means of your operating system by pressing hot keys while in the hidden labels mode. In this case, you will be shown a window with a notification about the blocking of this option. This is Xiaomi's separate protection of confidential information from unauthorized persons.

Removing a hidden note

  1. Go to the "Notes" application, also pull down the swipe and wait until the password entry menu appears.
  2. Provide a password and get access to hidden notes.
  3. Click on any of them and hold until an additional menu appears at the bottom.
  4. Select all the notes that you need to erase and click the "Delete" tab.

Conclusion

In general, working with notes in Xiaomi is not difficult, and very useful. A huge number of all kinds of post types are provided for users here so that they can compile lists of different formats and work with this data.

If you have sensitive information stored on your phone, we strongly recommend that you move it to hidden tags. These can be passwords from bank cards, important phone numbers, logins and passwords from accounts.

The owners of modern mobile phones regularly need to write down important information on their smartphones, using it as a digital notepad.

The phones of the Chinese brand Xiaomi have an application “Notes”, which has a wide range of possibilities in addition to the formation of “reminders”. Manufacturers have developed the function so that if you want, you can create a shopping list, set a photo or a special background design. The notes can be downloaded, transferred to another medium, they are synchronized in the Mi-account and can be hidden from prying eyes.

How to hide notes on Xiaomi

With the help of simple manipulations, only the owner of the gadget will be able to view the hidden data, who will know the password. For this you need.

1. Open the folder with the records.

2. With your fingers in the list, select the lines that need to be classified, tick off.

3. At the bottom of the screen, click on the lock icon.

After the performed actions, the marked items will no longer appear in the general list. To read them, the user will have to perform several manipulations and enter a graphic code (a set of numbers).

How to open hidden notes on Xiaomi

To re-make the records available, you must follow the instruction:

1. Go to the menu of the list of marks.

2. Make a swipe along with the marks all the way down, until a line for entering the code appears at the top of the screen.

3. You need to enter a combination of numbers or finger movements.

The records will now be available. They can be changed or reopened. If you keep the hidden status, the screenshot will not be available. This "trick" is aimed at preventing the intruder from getting secret information through photographing.

When the secrecy of the data has lost its relevance, then you can reverse the course of actions aimed at restoring visibility.

While in hidden records, mark them by highlighting and select “cancel opening” with the appropriate button. After completing the procedure, the encrypted files will be displayed in the general list of user marks.

If you learn to fully use this option, then the smartphone can become an excellent electronic storage of important information, including passwords from accounts on social networks and PIN codes from bank cards.

The article is divided into two parts: details about the new changes and the introduction of new features. In addition, there will be many photos as well as GIFs for better reference!

Details on MIUI 8 changes for Redmi Note 3

New font - Mi Lanting

* Sample MIUI 7 font on top, sample MIUI 8 below

MIUI 8 from the Chinese developer comes with a new font called "Mi Lanting". “So what difference does it make?” You might say, but after a few days of use, you will probably notice that even small changes matter. The new MIUI 8 font optimizes space in headings and status bars, making large font looks smoother and more elegant. We liked this font so much that we installed it earlier, even for MIUI 7. Changes are more visible if you use hieroglyphs.

Lock screen

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

After updating to MIUI 8, the lock screen wallpaper has also been changed. MIUI 8 adopts rainbow gradient and diamond-shaped Lock Screen design. You may notice that the watch has also undergone a redesign.

Phone and calls

* MIUI 7 for 1 and 3 photos, MIUI 8 for 2 and 4

The Phone app has undergone some obvious changes as well. The MIUI 8 dialing layout has become larger than in MIUI 7, the upper border uses green instead of the standard gray, and the search bar is now available in the Recent tab. In addition, MIUI 8 displays more contacts than MIUI 7 when the dial pad is minimized. The MIUI developers have taken great care in providing us with the best possible experience and user experience with their new ROM version.

The call interface has also been changed. MIUI 8 uses a round contact photo icon instead of a half-page photo, as it was in MIUI 7. The loudspeaker icon has moved to the text in the lower left corner, and its previous position is now occupied by the “note” icon, which is incredibly convenient for us as it became possible quickly record something during a call. When the speaker mode is selected, the background color changes slightly from lighter to darker. MIUI Developers have also added improved animation effects of accepting and ending calls to the new design. Well, in our opinion, these are pretty good improvements to the Phone app.

Contacts

In MIUI 8, the Contacts app looks much cleaner and tidier than in MIUI 7. The gray background has been replaced with white, the Add button is now floating, so more contacts are now displayed in one window. Forms for entering parameters when adding a new contact ("Name", "Company" and "Position") have been expanded to a full page.

MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

The contact details in MIUI 8 have also been optimized. The Options have been moved for a clearer presentation, and the Edit option as a floating button has been placed in the lower right corner. In addition, the "History" option has been added to the contact information. Despite this, the contact details in MIUI 8 still look more spacious than in MIUI 7. Instead of the same color, each contact card will be assigned one of 7 random designs. The 6 others are shown below:

Theme Store

Also in MIUI 8, the theme store has been optimized. Now you can switch to the "Wallpapers", "Ringtones" or "Fonts" tab simply by swiping the title left or right. The top panel will change color when switching between titles.

* MIUI 7 on 1st and 3rd photo, MIUI 8 on 2nd and 4th

On the Theme Settings page, MIUI 8 has reduced the number of options to 8 items. Nevertheless, all the settings from MIUI 7 remained in place, except for the "Notification" option. Although we can still set a notification using the Ringtone page. Items "Lock Screen" and "Home Screen" are now combined in the "Wallpaper" section. Below the options, there is also a shortcut key for backing up our current theme.

MIUI 8 has also changed the way a theme is previewed when it is selected. Now, instead of scrolling up the page to select "Delete", we can easily delete a topic by clicking in its upper right corner. In addition, the name of the designer, size and price of the theme are also displayed above the screenshots.

Safety

* MIUI 7 on 1st and 3rd photo, MIUI 8 on 2nd and 4th

Unfortunately, some features have been removed from MIUI 8. For example, "Data Saver" (not that it functions well) and battery modes. Now we can no longer switch between different profiles to save power consumption, and in our opinion, this is a small drawback of the new system. The “Power Timer” is hidden in the settings, which can be accessed in the upper right corner of the battery menu.

The battery saver option in MIUI 8 has become easier compared to MIUI 7 as battery profiles have been removed. However, we have a new battery analyzer feature available in the battery menu. Just click the Analyze Battery Usage button and you will get detailed information about the battery status (as shown in the 3rd and 4th screenshots above).

Camera

The camera app has also received a new optimized interface. Now, adjusting the camera and effects will no longer be done by moving the slider to the left or right. All of these modes have been redesigned into small interface icons. With the new MIUI 8, we will also get more cool new camera effects. However, the simplest way to switch between the back and front camera by sliding up or down has been removed. To be honest, we think this feature was really handy and would love to have it back in MIUI 8!

At the same time, the animation for switching between camera and video modes has also changed. We prefer the new MIUI 8 animation as it looks more minimal and nimble compared to MIUI 7

Gallery

The gallery now displays the total number of selected photos. This is in addition to the fact that this number is already shown at the top. Well, the main thing is that it doesn't do any harm.

Dictaphone

The voice recorder interface has been improved, although all functions remain the same.

The new nautical blue theme fits very well with the wave pattern of sound recording.

The calendar

No new features have been added to the calendar, but its interface has become more interactive. The top panel now changes color when switching between months, and the current date turns into a floating icon that slides down when viewing another day or month.

Calculator

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

The MIUI 8 Calculator app has been significantly improved over the previous version. The display got bigger and finally a percent sign (%) was added. In addition, there are many new calculation options that are hidden in the icon in the upper left corner.

We now have a currency converter, mortgage calculator, tax calculator, scientific calculator and other functions that will surely help many in math and just everyday life. We believe that a currency converter is a really useful thing, because often when traveling, you need to compare prices. This opportunity will also be useful for those who follow the currency market.

Notes

The Notes application has also received a very good job and has been greatly improved.

The list of notes has changed and now appears as a grid and timeline (screenshot below). As you write a note, its background changes to the color of the full page.

In addition, we can now apply some special themes to our notes and make them more creative. The disadvantage is that these themes do not apply to the note list widget on the home screen. In addition, the style of the list of notes can be presented in the form of a grid or a timeline; to change it, you need to click on the icon in the upper right corner.

In addition, we can now hide our notes in a secret place and protect them with a password. To do this, you just need to drag down the list of notes, and the hidden folder will be available.

Settings page

MIUI 8's settings page has been optimized with a dark gray theme. Some modifications have been made, now the "Lock" and "Access" options have appeared on the settings page. Also on this page there are two new MIUI 8 features: "Second Space" and "Clone Applications". These new features will be presented below.

Status bar (Status bar)

The status bar in MIUI 8 has been changed in the style of a card deck, which looks very cool. The length of the status bar depends on the number of existing notification types. In addition, the color of the status bar will change according to today's weather, that is, it will turn green in sunny weather and blue in cloudy weather. This way we can easily find out the current weather with just one glance at the status bar! The up and down animation of the status bar is flawless, smooth, and simply mesmerizing. This is definitely another strong argument in favor of the new MIUI 8.

Do you not really like the new style of the bar status and want to return the old one? No problem, just go to Settings> Notifications & Status Bar, go to the radio button layout selection tab and select Individual. Well that's all, the usual MIUI 7 status bar is back.

Recent

There are also some improvements in the recently used apps list. The music player controls have been placed above the recent apps list, making white space more efficient. In the upper right corner, a shortcut has been added to switch the view modes of recently opened applications (in the form of shortcuts / in the form of pages), therefore, now you do not need to use 2 fingers to increase or decrease icons. In addition, we can also notice that the overall layout has been optimized so that more space is freed up in the list for open applications.

UpdatesAccommodation

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

MIUI 8 now uses a circular design in its update app (as opposed to MIUI 7, which uses triangles). The new interface also gives us a greater sense of spaciousness.

Optimized user interface

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

There are also some obvious changes in the MIUI 8 UI. In hours, “minutes” are now aligned with “hours” and the overall size of the hours has decreased. The Screen Lock icon has been redesigned. If you have noticed, the Google search bar in MIUI 8 has also shrunk slightly compared to MIUI 7. This makes MIUI 8 look more spacious than MIUI 7.

New features in MIUI 8

Editing tool

The photo and video editing tool is no longer easy in MIUI 8. Now it has many new options, resources and functions. In addition to photo editing, it is now possible to make edits to your videos using the video editing tool. We can simply change the effect of the video, crop it and even add text or music to it. This is really useful for making short videos in a matter of minutes using your smartphone.

Long screenshot

Another amazing MIUI 8 feature is the long screenshot! Now we can take screenshots from the phone in a more professional way. After the screenshot is taken, it will "float" in the upper right corner of the screen, and we can further edit it by clicking on it and stretching it! As a reminder, the long screenshot is only applicable to pages that are scrolling. In addition, after the screenshot is taken, we can directly edit or share it while it “floats”. Who would have thought that this little feature (screenshot) could be further improved to become something so cool and useful?

Context menu

Everyone knows that a similar function has already been implemented in smartphones from Apple and Samsung. But in MIUI 8, floating icons are much easier than you might think. It provides up to 5 shortcuts, and also has the ability to select applications in which the menu will be hidden. The icon will become almost transparent if not used for 2 seconds. This is why MIUI named it "Context Menu". You can find this option under Settings> Advanced Options> Context Menu.

Second Space

There is another new MIUI 8 feature called Extra Space. When activated, we will get another space with completely new applications and elements. This is similar to our PCs' window where you can select a different user. After setting a password for the second workspace, you will be able to enter the different spaces by entering their password on the locked screen. This is very useful if your friends have a habit of checking your phone.

Clone apps

Now, in MIUI 8, we can create another copy of the application. This feature is called cloning applications. What is this innovation for? Here's the main reason: you can use your social apps under two different accounts at the same time! Application data has been split into two parts, so you can now use two similar applications with different accounts. The cloned app has a yellow symbol in the lower left corner.

New scanner

Now it is supplemented with more advanced features that are really useful in our life! There are currently 6 options in the scanner to choose from. The first option is a regular scanner that is used to scan QR codes, the second option is a trade scanner. With this option, it is possible to photograph a product and find a similar one in online stores. It is really helpful for users all over the world if you know how to use the internet to shop in your country.

The third function is the built-in translator. We really like it because it works really well and is really cool! Currently, this translator is capable of translating up to 7 languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, German and Korean. But most of the languages are translated into Chinese, since we used the Chinese version of the firmware in this review.

The fourth option can be used to solve complex math problems, but we haven't tested it yet.

The fifth version of the scanner is used to read business data from business cards and save it as a contact on the phone. You may need to try several times to get the correct data, but usually you will not be 100% accurate. So just keep the correct one and edit it a bit, it will save you time anyway compared to entering data manually.

The latter option is a real gem of MIUI 8. We can use the scanning app to save any document. After photographing the document from any angle, you can crop and edit it. After making and confirming all the changes, we will get our document in a flat form, we can convert it to black and white and even extract text from it! The only drawback is that at the moment the scanner can only extract text in one language. Anyway, this is a super powerful MIUI 8 tool, the counterparts of which cost a lot of money. We are confident that you will love MIUI 8 more with this built-in feature!

conclusions

In general, it must be said that the jump from MIUI 7 to MIUI 8 turned out to be much larger than from MIUI 6 to MIUI 7. MIUI 8 has many great new features, as well as space optimization, which will make our life much smarter and more convenient. ... While people still complain about the Android version, you will surely be happy with these MIUI updates.

The owners of most modern smartphones have at least once faced the need to write down useful information, using a mobile gadget as a high-tech digital notebook.

For most Android models, the Notes application must be additionally downloaded from the Play Market. However, the phones of the Chinese brand "Xiaomi" are already equipped with a built-in program, where the records themselves and the photos attached to them can be stored and stored. With the help of the same application, you can also make a checklist (a list of household chores, work tasks or purchases) and even use this method to view Xiaomi's hidden notes in the device's memory.

It is often necessary to hide the recorded information because it is confidential and should not be available to outsiders. To do this, Xiaomi smartphones have a special function that allows, if necessary, to first hide and then restore the normal display of records. You can prohibit viewing hidden data by following a few simple steps:

After that, the records will disappear from the main and open list for all. And before you read them, you have to perform certain actions. In addition, to gain access to the records, you will need to enter a password or verify the user using a fingerprint sensor, which makes protection more reliable.

How to open hidden notes

To find records hidden from strangers in Xiaomi, you need:

Now the hidden information can be seen and even changed. Changes are saved as easily as in notes that are shared. The only option not available when using hidden recordings is to take a screenshot of the screen.

This is done so that an unauthorized user cannot copy the information and save it as a picture. When trying to make a copy of the image on the smartphone display, the system should show a message that it is impossible to perform such an operation if the application is not authorized.

Tune

You can return the records back - so that you don't have to access them with a password every time - by performing the reverse procedure:

  1. Open Notes. Once you are in the application, open access to hidden entries.
  2. Mark information that is already hidden.
  3. Cancel hiding with the corresponding button.

After that, all hidden notes will be displayed in the general list again. And, although they will be available to outsiders, they will not require unnecessary user actions when reading or changing information. If the need to maintain confidentiality still remains, the lock and password can be set on a smartphone.

It should be noted that the option to hide entries is not available for all phone models. A relatively new feature appeared only starting with the 8th version of the MIUI firmware. For example, Redmi Note 3 Pro has it, as well as many new features for owners of Xiaomi smartphones released since 2016. On older phones with the MIUI 5, 6 or 7 launcher, there is no such option - and since you cannot disable access to notes on Xiaomi Redmi 3, the user will either have to use other protection methods or update the firmware.
