People with a different way of living can have a different value in God’s eyes

One day, while practicing his prayers, Christ said: (Matt. 24:40-41). The very image of the revealed Savior attracts respect - it appears that people with a very similar type of activity, with a different way of living, can receive a completely different rating in the eyes of God. Given the darkness on this world of the ancient holy fathers, the pattern “believers-unbelievers, righteous-unrighteous” will follow. However, Saint Theophan the Recluse has an idea that allows us to look at the Gospel rows from a different side.

In the book “What is Spiritual Life,” the saint rejoices that the human skin contains the body of life, the soul of life, and the spirit of life. The body of life is the active, external side of our life; those who are other people with us. The soul of life is indicated by the thoughts behind which everything is done. Thoughts are consumed by the same moods of the heart - from them all our ideas and plans are expressed. These very deep intuitions, the totality of feelings and desires of the hearts form the spirit of life. It is because of the vigor of the spirit of life that God executes His judgment, as the Apostle Paul writes: God will judge the people in secret(Rom. 2:16). True, the synodal translation of this place inaccurately conveys the sense. U original text said: God will judge these people(translated more correctly in Church Slovakian: if God judges, the darkness is hidden by people). It is possible that this is the same spirit of life that St. Theophan talks about.

Further, the Recluse writes that the spirit of life, in its essence, can be divided into several categories. Persha is a God-fearing spirit. Those who have a God-fearing spirit of directing themselves to the service of God and most of all in the world are afraid of embarrassing the Heavenly Father. The spirit is narcissistic - if you realize it yourself: I serve myself and am even afraid of embarrassing myself. The peaceful spirit is to serve the world and love the light (the word “light” is used in the meaning of sin, like the all-world without God). And Theophanes’s fourth axis of the spirit of life is called: neither one nor the other.

The recluse writes that most people are driven by such a spirit. It’s impossible to say that the stench was too self-indulgent, no. However, the reason to cheat through self-sacrifice will be found sooner rather than later. And not to say that they are even peaceful - but “don’t mind and calm down at the same time with the world on the right.” Maybe the stench is not God-fearing? All of them don’t stink to God. It’s true, I don’t want to kill Youmu. Going to church to pray for something, but the thought of serving God and one’s neighbor is far from their mind. Bye bye, the stench is big-mensh-baiduzhi.

If God is placed in the first three categories, there is no need to guess - everything is extremely clear there. Why should God marvel at the spirit of life “neither this nor that”? It seems that representatives of such a spirit are not acceptable to God, and are, frankly, atheists. The Lord throws out such people, like St. Theophan. Christ himself said about them in the Apocalypse: neither cold nor hot... I will speak to you from my lips(Vol. 3, 15–16). The wrath of God falls upon the noses of the spirit of life, called “neither one nor the other,” which, perhaps, can generally be called a spirit of lukewarmness.

Here you can remember the words of the Savior about the Last Judgment: there will be two on the field: one is taken, and the other is lost; two grains in the mounds: one is taken, and the other is lost(Matt. 24:40-41). Despite the absolute similarity of their lives and way of living, people reject God’s unequal payment, because they were tainted with a different spirit. This is how Theophan the Recluse means his thought: “The shape of human life, however, is the spirit and, indeed, everyone.” And the whole point here is that it’s not about external activity, which may be similar among the rich, but about the inner workings of both parties. And what else is there, except God, we can’t say anything about it.

So much more and more alive, we got drunk - it’s effective, “neither nor se”

Naturally, the thoughts of Saint Theophan are especially tempting to think about the spirit of “neither this nor that,” because one cannot help but notice its signs in one’s life. As if we were so alive and alive, we jumped in and without much effort - effectively, “neither one nor the other.” And you understand everything, and you’re afraid of God, and you don’t have enough strength to straighten your life for a God-fearing spirit. Whether you don’t care, or maybe you don’t believe it enough, it’s important to get involved here. Perhaps the spirit of life “neither nor this” is so-so and manifests itself: if people in the Church experience rocks, there is no prospect of spiritual growth and practically no change in soul. At the end of the day, we can tell everything, but we can’t earn anything from ourselves.

How amazing it is that you can learn from a “good” person - kind-hearted, smart, practical - but in Christian expression to lose “neither one nor the other.” Everything can be beautiful, but under the apparent fairness there is an impure aspiration of the heart, or, even worse, there is a hidden desire for God and neighbors - then there is a risk of shaking the sky and dealing with the millstones, What have you lost? The spirit of life, which is in the body of life during the hour of our earthly struggle, will tell absolutely everything about us before the Creator in the world. And what kind of spirit will it be “neither this nor that”, where we refer to?

Eliminate the spirits of life, as you banish the sides of the world. There are so many paths that have led us for a long time. It is necessary to choose the path uphill, and lead there without a God-fearing spirit. Obviously, you need to ask God about him. “In prayer, ask for the fear of God,” - for the sake of us, young pilgrims, after the liturgy, at the Vivtara, the old monk. So I don’t understand it at all. Ale now, through fate, the elder is glad to remember how the ranks of St. Theophan were guessed and read. And I already know what I ask Christ for during the blessed hour of Great Lent.

Phraseologism “neither nor se” - about joyless mediocrity and gloomy sadness.

It's a pity there are some people, books, films, days...

Let's take a look at the meaning of that phrase, synonyms and antonyms, as well as phraseology from the works of writers.

The meaning of phraseology

Neither one nor the other - Somehow (or maybe) average, incomprehensible, not noticeable in any way

Phraseologisms and synonyms: neither fish nor meat; neither in the town of Bogdan, nor in the village of Selifan; the middle into half; neither a candle nor a devil's poker; neither two nor repeat; neither pav nor crow; neither came nor received; quieter than the water, lower than the grass

Phraseologisms and antonyms: what do you need, what do you want?

U foreign languages The expressions are similar in their meanings. Among them:

  • neither fish nor flesh (English language)
  • il n"est bon ni à rôtir, ni à bouillir (French language)
  • weder Fisch noch Fleisch (German language)

Similarities to phraseology

In general, this phraseology goes up to “and so wise”: “neither nor se” means “neither nor se”, then. it seems unimportant, in between.

Timing is not less, it is possible to formulate a strong statement, so that we can settle after the arrival of “neither one nor the other, neither in the town of Bogdan, nor in the village of Selifan,” and then Bogdan and Selifan went where, and lost their form, neither the same and that's it.

Propositions from phraseology from the works of writers

God alone could tell what kind of character Manilov was. And among the people who live under them: people are like that, neither one nor the other. (N.V. Gogol, “Dead Souls”)

- So what happened? “That’s right, neither one nor the other,” said Vronsky. (L.N. Tolstoy, “Ganna Karenina”)

An ensign may have a small rank, no matter what, but he is still a servant of the witch, an officer... shedding blood... What is he going to be punished for? (A.P. Chekhov, “They got rid of it!”)

Once upon a time there lived two toads. There was a smell of friends and lingered in the same ditch. Only one of them was the common forest toad - brave, strong, cheerful, and the other was neither one nor the other: the fearful toad, the ledar, the dormouse. (L. Panteleev, “Two Toads”)

And donka in the new year, well, the little lady burned up, so the little lady burned up, neither one nor the other. Well, we started to walk, sit, whatever it is, but until the poetry has no skill and we can’t play the piano. (M.M. Zoshchenko, “Black book”)

The axis of this phraseology “neither nor that” is included in this article. Nothing particularly significant. Perhaps, due to the moisture characteristics of yogo the baggage was screaming in the distance applications from the works of writers.
